Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at mygranitesolutions@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

While they all look stunning, they have very different compositions and maintenance needs:

  • Granite: A 100% natural stone cut directly from the earth. Every slab is entirely unique. It is highly heat-resistant but requires periodic sealing because it is naturally porous.
  • Quartz: An engineered stone made from roughly 90–95% crushed natural quartz mixed with resin binders and pigments. It is completely non-porous (never needs sealing) and highly stain-resistant, but it can be damaged by extreme direct heat (above 300°F) due to the resins.
  • Quartzite: A 100% natural metamorphic rock that began as sandstone. It delivers the elegant, veined look of marble but boasts the hardness and durability of granite. Like granite, it requires regular sealing.

Absolutely. In fact, we highly recommend it for natural stones like granite and quartzite. Because natural stone features unique veining, pitting, and color variations, no two slabs are identical. Once your design template is ready, we will review the slab options together so you can approve the exact orientation and layout of your future countertops.

To ensure a smooth, precise installation, please complete the following checklist:

  • Clear the Path: Remove all items, rugs, and obstructions from the entryways leading to the installation area.
  • Clear the Cabinets: Empty all lower cabinets completely. The installation process creates vibrations, and securing the heavy slabs requires clear access underneath.
  • Clear the Old Counters: If your package does not include our tear-out service, ensure your old countertops are fully removed before our arrival.
  • Disconnect Utilities: Disconnect all plumbing, gas, and electrical lines connected to your old sinks, cooktops, or appliances.

As a general rule, granite and quartzite should be sealed once a year. However, lighter-colored stones may require more frequent sealing than darker ones.

The Water Drop Test: To check if your counters need sealing, pour a few drops of water onto the surface. If the water beads up, your sealer is intact. If the stone darkens and absorbs the water within a few minutes, it’s time to re-seal.

  • The Right Way: Use a mild, pH-neutral dish soap mixed with warm water, or a dedicated stone cleaning spray, and a soft microfiber cloth.
  • What to Avoid: Never use abrasive pads, bleach, ammonia, vinegar, window cleaners, or citrus-based cleaners. The acids in these products will dull the finish and strip away the protective sealer over time.

Because countertops are cut from finite slabs (typically around 110" to 130" in length), layout configurations like L-shapes or massive islands will require seams. Our fabrication team works meticulously to color-match the epoxy jointer to your stone, placing seams in inconspicuous areas whenever possible. While seams are rarely completely invisible to the touch, they will be tight, smooth, and visually blended.
